Scott began his own career in karts at age eight, winning 50 of his first 75 starts and setting the stage for his professional future.
Career
Sharp’s professional career began in the SCCA, where he won his first national championship in 1986 (GT-2), followed by back-to-back GT-1 championships in 1987 and 1988. This success led him to the Trans-Am series, which he dominated in the early 1990s. Driving a Chevrolet Camaro, he became the youngest champion in the series’ history in 1991 and secured a second title in 1993.
He transitioned to open-wheel racing, making his CART debut in 1993. His breakthrough in high-level motorsports came in 1996 when he won the prestigious 24 Hours of Daytona. That same year, Sharp joined the inaugural season of the Indy Racing League (IRL) with A.J. Foyt Enterprises and became the co-champion of the IRL’s first-ever season.
